Quarry Lakes is located in between the Niles and Centerville districts, near the border with Union City. The lakes formed when water percolated up into the old pits after the quarry was exhausted. There are many trails in this park, including a connection to the bay trail that heads all way out to the Dumbarton Bridge.
Niles is a district of Fremont. The Niles plaza is relatively new. The old depot was moved over closer to downtown, and the park and small ampitheater were built up around it. There are frequent Sunday concerts in the plaza in the summertime.
If you're willing to commute, Fremont is one of the ideal places to live in the Bay Area. San Jose and Silicon Valley is a short ways south, and some of the larger companies provide bus service to their employees. Palo Alto is right across the Dumbarton Bridge, and the Dumbarton Express bus service provides a convenient public transit option for commuters. This picture shows a winter sunrise, viewed from the DB bus during the morning commute. Another great option for commuters is Bart, which currently terminates at the Fremont Station. Bart provides service up to Downtown Oakland and Berkeley, and across the SF Bay into Downtown San Francisco. Pleasanton, Livermore, and the rest of the Tri-Valley area are a quick reverse commute up 680.
